Returning to Old Trafford were Manchester United legends Denis Law and Danny Webber as the iconic Theatre of Dreams hosted the 2018 Football Aid fixture between two sets of thrilled players. A mighty close game saw both sides battling hard to seal a victory, and two quick-fire goals late on saw the Away team secure a 4-3 victory in what was a game packed full of breath-taking goals.

Early moments of the game saw the Home team, playing in the famous Red shirts, create the first chances of the game. Home No 9 Sam Patel played a pass into the supporting Home No 11 Andy Whiting whose shot was blocked, with the ball falling to Home No 7 Stephen Hughes on the right and his outside the foot strike saw Away keeper Frank Burns scramble across his goal line and save bravely.
Moments later, a back pass from Away legend Danny Webber was intercepted by Home No 9 Sam Patel and his shot on goal was brilliantly saved by the busy Away stopper Frank Burns and out for a corner. The No 1 was keeping his side in the game early on.
There was scramble on the goal line down the other end of the pitch when Away No 8 Shah Rizuan Shaari made a strong run inside the box and cut the ball back to Away No 7 Louis Singleton in a dangerous area but Home No 5 Scott McLardy was able to scurry the ball clear.
Away No 2 Jay Eaton made a spectacular block to prevent a 2nd goal for the Home team after the ball was squared by Home No 9 Sam Patel and shot into a gaping net. The Away team cleared the danger but the Home side eventually took a deserved lead thanks to a David Beckham-esque corner kick from Home No 8 Andrew Roylance, with the left midfielder beautifully curling an in-swinging corner over the heads of the Away defenders and into the far corner of the net to make it 1-0 to the Home team with 24 minutes gone (1-0).
From one quality goal to another, the Away team were quick to respond as they found a thunderous equaliser on 29 mins through Away No 6 Jason Leeson. His incredible low-drilled effort from long range into the bottom corner of the goal came after some excellent dribbling down the left wing by Away No 8 Shah Rizuan Shaari (1-1).
With the scores level heading closer to half time, the Home team combined brilliantly on 40 mins and regained the lead through striker No 9 Sam Patel. A ball forward from Home No 16 James Ravenscroft into the path of Home No 10 Chris Bailey who controlled and the attacking midfielder’s quick turn of pace into the box allowed him to square the ball from inside the box and striker Sam Patel finished calmly from close range (2-1).
The ref's whistle brought an entertaining half to an end, with the Man Utd Home team enjoying a narrow 2-1 lead over their opposite numbers.
Half-Time: Man Utd (Home) 2 - 1 Man Utd (Away)
Right after the break the Home No 11 Andy Whiting had an excellent chance after finding himself in a goal scoring opportunity, but the on-rushing Away goalkeeper Frank Burns pulled off another important save once again as he prevented the ball being cheekily chipped over his head and into the back of the net.
Showing his quality was Away legend Danny Webber and with 20 mins to go he drove towards the Home goal with a strong direct run through the middle of the pitch, he created space for the shot after evading two defenders and smashed the ball into the top right corner of the net (2-2).
That lead didn’t last long as the Home side won a corner and the floated ball to the far post looped over everyone including the Away goalkeeper and into the path of Home No 9 Sam Patel whose touch set up Home No 14 Demis Ohandjanian from a yard out to tap the ball into the net and give his side the lead once again (3-2).
Chances were being created at an increasing rate as the game became stretched, with Away No 14 Tom Khan feeding an excellent through pass into Away No 18 Greg Chapman whose low drilled effort was saved by Home keeper and captain Anthony Hughes, whilst the rebound fell to Away No 7 Louis Singleton who was unfortunate to see his shot go just over the bar.
The Away team weren't made to rue their miss however and the game soon saw another equaliser. This time it came from the skilful Away No 8 Shah Rizuan Shaari, who picked up the ball 25 yards out, successfully took on three Home players with his dribble into the box and slotted the ball beyond the keeper to cap off a remarkable individual goal for his side with 85 mins gone (3-3).
Momentum was then with the Away team and they completed a brilliant comeback in the 87th min when Away No 18 Greg Chapman scored an excellent counter attack goal. The move was started when Away No 15 Billy Bauros won the ball back in his own half, drove forward and played a lovely weighted through ball into the path of the substitute forward, who showed great composure to slot beyond the Home keeper, to give his side the lead for the first time in the game! (3-4)
The full-time whistle ended a closely-fought tie soon afterwards, with both sets of players providing fantastic entertainment and some stunning goals. Whilst the Away team secured victory late on, the Home team pushed them all the way and were unlucky to lose in the end. Huge thanks once again to legends Danny Webber, Clayton Blackmore, Denis Law and all the players for their endeavour throughout the 90mins.
