As it reached Midday in Derby, it meant only one thing; we had a Football Aid game on our hands! A Home team managed by Derby legend Roy McFarland lined up against an Away side, with Roger Davies taking charge of the ‘visitors’.

The Away side, sporting a fluorescent Yellow shirt with Blue shorts started the faster of the two teams and opened the scoring on 2 mins when Captain Chris Stanton-Wharmby fired in from yards out after some excellent close control. (0-1)

The Home team wearing the traditional White shirts and Black shorts of the Rams looked for a response but safe hands goalkeeper Sam Godsall was not to be beaten early on, catching an inviting cross. They had the ball in the net minutes later when Harry Georgiou slotted home, only to see the linesman’s flag raised.

Despite the Home team's pressure it was soon 2-0 to the Away side when Harry Blakely latched on to a defence splitting ball from Manu Fratini to slot under the keeper. (0-2)

Attempts came and went for both sides as a Home side featuring playing Legend Marc Edworthy in their ranks looked for a way back into the game without success.

It was the Away team to extend their lead next however when right back, Emanuele Fratini expertly curled an effort into the top left hand corner to send Roger Davies’ side three up. (0-3)

Fratini was proving his worth to his side and he was involved in a goal for the third time when his pinpoint cross picked out Blakely who headed home to extend the lead to four. A second assist of the day for the Away right back with only 27 minutes played. (0-4)

The Away side had a 5th goal on 31 mins when CM and eventual Away Man of the Match Harry Blakely worked his way into space in the box before firing past a despairing Charalambos George in the Home net for a 1st half hat-trick. (0-5)

An acrobatic effort from the home side came to nothing as the Away side featuring Derby Legend Michael Johnson looked comfortable. However the Home side did rattle the crossbar with a long range effort, it wasn't proving to be their day in front of goal.

After 35mins the Away side were on easy street as Fabrizio Galasso extended his team’s lead further with a well placed low finish for a 6th before the break. (0-6)

The lead looked comfortable for the Away team but the Home side were deservedly on the score sheet with 5mins to go until the interval when Kristian Haynes broke through the defence to find the bottom corner for a first half consolation strike. (1-6)

Half-Time: Derby County (Home) 1 - 6 Derby County (Away)

Home team Manager Roy McFarland had a job to do at half-time and despite his rousing efforts to inspire his team the Away team started the 2nd half in good form and they looked to extend their leader further with Jon Dixon rattling the outside of the post within minutes of the restart. Back came the Home team though, but a long range effort from substitute Marios Georgiou failed to trouble Godsall in the Away team goal.

A low long range effort from Jon Dixon extended the Away team’s lead back to six goals on the hour mark with his low shot sneaking in the bottom corner. (1-7)

The Home team were then in more trouble when substitute Christoper Ward was issued a straight red card for a last man lunge.

However the battling Home team were handed a lifeline on 65 mins when a handball in the box gave Steven Howkins the chance to convert from the penalty spot. A coolly taken kick was slotted home for his team’s second goal of the day. (2-7)

Howkins was close to another minutes later when his free kick flew wide. Neil Catherall closed the deficit to four however with 20 mins to go when he finished calmly in the next well-constructed move by the men in White. (3-7)

The Home team had a golden chance to score again soon after when Kristian Haynes hammered an effort against the post, however the rebound flew over the crossbar.

With time running out, both teams were keen to grab a final goal to cap their efforts, however late goal attempts for both sides failed to trouble the goalkeepers, before the final whistle blew at Derby, with a fine victory for Roger Davies and the Away side.

Huge thanks again to Derby County FC, and club Legends Roy McFarland, Roger Davies, Marc Edworthy and Michael Johnson for their fantastic support on the day.
