Arjun Ghose reflects on memorable season working for Football Aid
Over the past 3 months, Arjun Ghose, an MSc student from the University of Stirling (pictured 2nd from the left above), has been undertaking a work placement at Football Aid. He kindly took a brief moment out of his busy schedule to tell us about his experience and highlights from the season.
Arjun, can you tell us about your work placement at Football Aid, and what were your highlights?
"At Football Aid, I worked as an intern within the Events Team which helped me to learn and understand how the organisation worked, I also gained an insight into the various elements involved to deliver a ‘Live the Dream’ event. My role involved a combination of office based tasks and event delivery.
At the beginning, I helped in the office to compile the team-sheets and match countdown sheets in preparation for the upcoming event season. Another interesting and challenging part of my role was to ensure the personalisation of the official replica kits by printing the name and numbers on the back of the jerseys, and making sure they were ready in time for a match-day. Other admin tasks included: preparing the event equipment; printing sleeve patches; and updating spreadsheets / reports for the management team.
During the event delivery phase, I helped to setup the changing rooms, hospitality suite and I also assisted with various social media activities such as goal tweets and live updates."
"On a personal note, I had only dreamt of visiting the various stadiums so to get an opportunity to do this while also gaining some valuable work experience at the same time was truly special. I really enjoyed working in a fast paced, and professional environment.
Moreover, I got the chance to see how much the whole experience meant to the players as they got a unique opportunity to play at their favourite stadium, and in doing so, helping to raise valuable funds for worthy causes. I will look back on my placement at Football Aid with very fond memories."
What impact has the placement had on your career aims?
"The placement has helped me to live and realize my dream, it has also reinforced my ambition to pursue a career in football event management."
Lastly, do you have any advice/recommendations for any students thinking about taking up a similar work placement at Football Aid?
"This is a fantastic opportunity to gain some valuable event management experience to support your academic studies and future careers. I would have no hesitation in recommending a similar placement at Football Aid to any students thinking about it."
