Tributes paid to Sir Bobby Robson, who passed away 10 Years ago

Tributes have been pouring in for Sir Bobby Robson, who passed away 10 years ago.

The former Fulham, Ipswich, Newcastle, Barcelona and England manager was greatly admired and loved by the whole of the football community and the huge regard he was held in was highlighted by the range of tributes paid on 31st July, with the likes of Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker and Jose Mourinho all speaking out about their huge respect for the great man.

Football Aid were honoured to have Sir Bobby serve as our Patron between 2001 and 2009 and his incredible support was instrumental in the early growth of our charity. Thanks to his support we’ve been fortunate enough to be able to donate over £2.35M to charitable causes since.

Sir Bobby features prominently in our promotional video, with his inspirational words about Football Aid’s potential to spread across the world providing us with the motivation to hold games in Spain, Italy, Portugal and the USA in the years after his interview.

We asked Football Aid's Founding Chairman for his memories of Sir Bobby:

"10 years ago Sir Bobby Robson passed away.

I remember like it was yesterday when it felt like he looked into my soul when I asked him to become the Football Aid Patron in 2001.

Standing on a wet Newcastle train platform returning home that day he called to say yes.

The rest is history.

Amazing man forever grateful for his support 👏👏
