The Home team kicked us off at the King Power stadium wearing the all Blue strip that the title winners wore in the season just gone, whilst the Away team sported the all black change kit of the Foxes.

The game started at a hectic pace and it didn’t take long for the Away side to take the lead. Away No 9 Adam Hoult was in the right place to pounce on a mistake in the Home defence and threaded the ball through to Away No 11 Oliver Reid who rounded the keeper for a simple finish in the 5th min (0-1).

Attack attack attack, was the Away team’s motto, and a quick burst from his goal-line saw Home No GK Allan Todd deny Away No 9 Adam Hoult when the pair were one-on-one with each other.

However the Away side soon doubled their lead when the lively Away No 9 Adam Hoult latched on to a long pass from No 6 Graham Davies and slotted past the keeper in the 17th min (0-2).

The goals were flying in and it was 0-3 in the 20th min when Away Legend Matt Piper’s low pass evaded everyone in the box and found Michail Retsinas, and the Away No 7’s well placed 1st time lob looped over the goalkeeper and into the net (0-3).

Shortly afterwards, the referee signalled for a penalty with 25 mins on the clock, when Home No 4 Dean Thorpe was judged to handle the ball on the line. Away No 10 and Captain Gogs Gogna stepped up confidently, but was denied glory when Home keeper Allan Todd correctly guessed the direction of the penalty and pushed the strike over the bar!

The Away team continued to press though and their No 11 Oliver Reid was enjoying his night in front of goal and he got his 2nd of the night when he saw an opportunity to curl the ball into the right hand corner of the net (0-4).

Next on the score sheet for the Away side was No 8 Hemel Majithia. With 30 mins on the clock the classy left midfielder skipped past 3 challenges before striking the ball home to give the Away team a solid lead (0-5).

The Home side’s first chance came soon after and it was very, very close, Home No 10 Jon Dixon seeing his long distance effort hit the top of the crossbar and just go over!

However the Away side were still on top and Away No 11 Oliver Reid completed an excellent 1st half hat-trick when he managed to slide in and pounce onto a rebound and fire the ball into the roof of the net in the 38th min (0-6).

The Home Legend Julian Joachim nearly found his team’s 1st goal when he found the ball at his feet in the box however Away Legend Matt Piper threw himself in front of the ball to block it. From the resulting corner, Away legend Matt Piper acrobatically cleared Home No 10 Jon Dixon’s header off the line. Fantastic stuff from the former Foxes pro!

However the Home team finally got the reward their efforts deserved and just before half-time, Home Legend Julian Joachim showed his class by sending a rocket of a strike past Away No 1 Mark Reid to make it (1-6).

That was the last significant action of the 1st half. An action packed 45mins had seen the Away team build up a big advantage going into the break, thanks in main to a hat-trick from Away No 11 Oliver Reid; however the Home team were showing glimpses of getting back into the game towards the end of the half and a big 2nd half was in store.

Half Time: Leicester City (Home) 1 - 6 Leicester City (Away)

The Away side restarted the game for the 2nd half, keen to maintain their advantage but the Home team came out full of attacking intent, knowing they were chasing the game. Despite this it was the Away side that had the next big chance when Away No 8 Hemel Majithia tried his luck from distance, but he was denied by Home No 51 Allan Todd who did well to tip the ball on to the crossbar.

The referee was certainly busy giving penalties out during the match, and on 53mins Away No 4 Gary Thomas pulled down Home No 6 Sam Cunningham for the 2nd award of the night. The impressive midfielder coolly stepped up himself and slotted the penalty past the keeper (2-6).

As a fitting reward for his excellent efforts throughout the Away Captain Gogs Gogna managed to banish the memory of his early penalty miss and get on the scoresheet when he broke free of the defence on 65mins and struck the ball past the keeper (2-7).

Goal number 4 of the game came for Away striker Oliver Reid in the 70th min when he found himself on the end of No 7 Michail Retsinas cross for a 1st time finish in the box (2-8).

Two mins later, Home Legend Julian Joachim broke free down the left of the pitch and played a low ball across goal which found Home No 11 Michael Hextall in space for a nice easy tap-in for his team’s 3rd goal of the night (3-8).

That goal lifted the Home side and they scored again in the 75th min when Sam Cunningham laid the ball off on the edge of the box for Home Legend Julian Joachim to score his 2nd of the night and make it (4-8).

The end of the game was nearing but there was still time for a brilliant scene, which brought happiness to all involved. With the result safe Away No 4 Gary Thomas picked up the ball and placed it on the penalty spot, the refereer had no option to give the penalty, allowing the Home No 9 and Captain Lawrence Louis the chance to score a penalty into the bottom right hand corner of the goal (5-8). The Leicester born Foxes fan had travelled all the way from the USA to celebrate his 60th Birthday by Living the Dream at the King Power stadium and to go back home with a goal must have been extra special to Lawrence and all his supporters!

It was the last action of the game; the Home side couldn’t halt the Away team’s strong performance as they ran Away 5-8 winners! Huge thank you to Leicester City for their wonderful hospitality and for allowing us the use of their fantastic facilities for our players and spectators. Also huge thanks to Foxes Legends Julian Joachim and Matt Piper for getting involved and sharing their playing experiences with the players.
