With all the contenders analysed and the competition entries checked, we’re able to announce the results of the 'Football Aid 2015 - Goal of the Season' competition.

The winning goals, chosen by expert judge Pat Nevin are listed in reverse order below (with Pat's comments in quotes) -

"It was as high a standard as ever this year and I poured over the goals for a long time. Actually I did that not only to be fair to everyone but also because it was great fun, seeing the quality and watching the reactions to the goals. Oddly enough choosing 3rd place was probably the toughest call of all; it came down to a number of long shots and cheeky chips. Personally I have a particular penchant for a classy chip over the keeper so the third place went down that road."

3rd: Goal I - Nottingham Forest - Matthew Botley
“He knew exactly what he was doing when he tricked the defender and was coolness personified when he chipped it over the helpless goalkeeper. It was a real classic of its type and one of a few great chips on show this year.”
2nd: Goal K - Nottingham Forest - George Simpson
“You couldn’t really ignore this one. After the plaudits received by everyone from David Beckham to Charlie Adam, George showed that all it takes is a bit of vision, some skill, an unerring aim and a dollop of imagination to score this type of goal. When you score from inside your own half it is not unlike a hole in one in golf, it is a never to be forgotten moment. It was a real close call for goal of the season and I accept this one might have been many peoples first choice.”
Winner: Goal G - Middlesbrough - Jamie Martin
“I am looking for lots of things when I choose the winner in this competition. Vision, skill, technique and planning are all prerequisites. On top of that I want a great camera angle to help things along too. More than this however I want it to be a goal that not only any top Premier League footballer would be proud of, but that no Premier League goalkeeper would save either. And so this is the one, had this been Zola, Cantona, Stevie Gerrard or Yaya Toure he would have been proud of it. I can pay it no higher compliment.”

We’d like to send our huge congratulations to Goal of the Season 2015 winner Jamie Martin, his fantastic curling effort at The Riverside was a thoroughly deservedly winner. Jamie wins himself a special Goal of the Season trophy as a reward for his outstanding achievement.

The winner of our prediction competition was Ethu Crorie, and he’s chosen a free position in our 2016 game at Celtic Park.

We’d like to say a massive thanks to everybody who entered the competition and huge congratulations again to all of our tremendous finalists for providing us with such a fantastic standard of goals to choose from.
