Charity Awards Update – December 2012

We've detailed a selection of our recent grant awards below, along with feedback from the relevant nominated recipients. These amounts represent just a small portion of the charitable funds raised from our recent games and if you'd like to know more about the charity benificiaries from a game you've played in feel free to contact

Over £1.89M in total has been paid out or designated as payable to charities in the 12 years since Field of Dreams was established and full details of the charities we support and how they are chosen can be found on the Field of Dreams page.

Aston Villa 2012: Acorns Children’s Hospice - £8,500

"Acorns would like to thank Football Aid/Field of Dreams for their kind and generous donation which will make a real difference to our work and the many hundreds of children and young people we support throughout the year."

Birmingham City 2010:  Queen Eizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity - £2,000

"Thank you for the generous grant of £2,000 from Field of Dreams in recognition of Birmingham City’s support of Football Aid. The grant will be very much appreciated by the young cancer patients on our Young Persons Unit."

Birmingham City 2011: Macmillan Cancer Support - £1,000

"Thank you! The generous donation of £1,000 will help play a significant part in improving the lives of people affected by cancer."

Blackpool 2011: Blackpool FC Community Trust - £1,500

"Absolutely Brilliant! We can purchase kit for our new disability teams thanks to Football Aid and Field of Dreams!"

Bolton Wanderers: Community Trust 2010 - £2,000

"We are very grateful to receive this grant. It will help to fund the Scarf Project which is a very good scheme enhancing the lives of young people in Bolton."

Coventry City: NSPCC 2010 - £1,000

"The NSPCC relies upon voluntary donations for over 85% of its income. It is only through the support and generosity of people such as yourselves that we are able to continue to offer our crucial services to children who are at risk in our local communities, therefore the support of local people is immensely important to us."

Everton 2011: Everton in the Community – £11,500

"The funding received will be used to support young people with mental health issues, this will help them bond with parents, carer and guardians and will hopefully change their life for the better."

Liverpool 2010: Liverpool FC Foundation - £20,000

"We are enormously grateful for the donation made to us by Field of Dreams. Your support is much appreciated by us all at the Liverpool FC Foundation, and I know it will also be appreciated by the families we work with. We are particularly pleased because the donation will help us to significantly extend the reach of the Tactics 4 Families project by enabling us to make resources for teachers, community leaders and families available on the Liverpool FC website. Thank you again."

Liverpool 2011: Liverpool FC Foundation - £40,000

"Thank you so much for your support. It is much appreciated by us all at the Foundation but specifically those families who benefit so much from the Respect 4 All project. This project differs from other disability football programmes at is is specifically for children with the most severe disabilities and children who previously have had nothing provided for them outside of school / care hours."

Manchester City 2010 & 2011: City in the Community - £12,000

"City in the Community would like to thank Field of Dreams for their continued support of our Kickz Project. Due to the received funding, we are able to continue running session in of the most deprived areas in Manchester. The projects are a very important vehicle in order to reduce anti-social behaviours and keep participants safe and engaged."

Manchester United 2011: Manchester United Foundation - £22,500

"Thanks to the work done by Field of Dreams/Football Aid, fans from around the world are given the great opportunity of following in their hero’s footsteps, playing on the hallowed turf of Old Trafford."

Manchester United 2012: Manchester United Foundation - £10,500

"The donation was gratefully received by MU Foundation to support our inner city, Street Reds programme and a contribution to UNICEF, the club's Global Charity Partner."

Newcastle United Foundation: 2011 - £3,000

"Receiving this grant has enabled us to go into schools and reinforce the message through sport, that fair play, team work and communication leads to respect and understanding between people."

Nottingham Forest 2010: Balls to Poverty - £2,000

"Everyone associated with The Balls to Poverty Programme is delighted to have received this contribution from Field of Dreams. The programme has been running since 2005 and has seen over 200 different students and staff deliver 24,000 footballs and rugby balls to townships across South Africa. It is only through hard work, positive collaboration with partners and financial support such as this, that The Balls to Poverty Programme is able to continue and stay true to its roots, values and philosophies.

The contribution will go towards the purchase of balls for distribution in South African Townships. In addition, visiting groups of students take contributions of sporting resources with them, and also get involved in improving facilities through activities such as redecorating rooms. Your contribution will help us to continue this work in our forthcoming visits to the townships of South Africa."

Portsmouth 2010 & 11: Pompey Sports and Education Foundation (Pompey in the Community) - £2,000

"This project will help us continue with our disability project in local schools. It is fantastic that an event that gives so much enjoyment to football fans can also help in furthering our work in the community. Thank you!"

Queens Park Rangers: QPR in the Community Trust - £4,965

"We would like to thank Field of Dreams for supporting this project. Introducing computers and the internet to this group of over 60s will have a big impact. Skills such as emailing family members will help to reduce isolation and being confident when using the internet will open up a fantastic resource for them to use to find out information about local services, transport, shopping etc…"

Rangers 2011: Rangers Charity Foundation - £7,000

"The Rangers Charity Foundation has a long and valued relationship with Football Aid. We look forward to future matches at Ibrox in support of fantastic causes and at the same time giving fans the opportunity to play on their hallowed turf."

Rangers 2012: Rangers Charity Foundation - £4000

"We are happy to be continuing our support for Football Aid and at the same time raising valuable funds for our own Rangers Charity Foundation. Best wishes from all at Rangers for 2013!"

Reading FC: Reading FC Community Trust - £2,000

"The Community Trust at Reading FC are very grateful for the support we received from Field of Dreams which enabled young disadvantaged people the opportunity of being able to participate in an activity run by Reading FC. Thank you for your support!"

Sheffield Wednesday 2012: Weston Park Hospital Cancer Care Charity - £1,750

"Weston Park Hospital Cancer Care Charity is incredibly grateful to both Sheffield Wednesday and Field of Dreams for their much valued support of our work in the field of cancer research. We feel privileged to have been awarded a grant from an organisation that supports so many worthwhile causes. Thank you very much indeed."

Watford FC: Community and Sports Education Trust 2010 - £1,000

"As a charity we are extremely grateful to 'Field of Dreams' for this kind donation. It will enable us to keep promoting healthy living/eating messages and the importance of physical activity to many young people in local communities."

Premier League: Downs Syndrome Association - £10,250

"The Downs Syndrome association remains grateful for the continuous support of Football Aid/Field of Dreams. Without their unwavering support, we would not be able to host the Premier League’s Down’s Syndrome Football festival, an event that brings together Down’s Syndrome football players from across the country to engage in fun games and competition in a friendly but competitive environment. Their funding is fundamental to the festival."

Premier League: The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation - £8,690

"The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation would like to sincerely thank Field of Dreams for their valuable support in enhancing the care and treatment of cancer patients and the environment in which it is provided."

SFA 2010: Scottish Huntington’s Association - £1,000

"Please accept our sincere thanks for your donation of £1,000 towards our work with young people affected by Huntington’s disease. With your support in this way, we will be able to provide day’s activities and respite care for around 50 children, 80% of whom are young carers."

Field of Dreams 2011: Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres - £10,000

"Thank you for supporting Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres. I would like to thank you and everyone at Football Aid for your support. This donation to Maggie’s Edinburgh is very much appreciated and will have a big impact on the support we provide to local families affected by cancer."

Field of Dreams 2010 & 2011: Leicestershire Parents Group of Diabetes UK - £6,000 + £2,000

"Leicestershire Parents Group of Diabetes UK is extremely grateful to Field of Dreams for supporting Camp Charnwood 2012.This will be our 29th year in taking more than 50 children on holidays in August giving them lots of fun but teaching them to look after their diabetes more successfully."
