Southampton 2007

Football Aid Championships, 17th May 2007, St Mary’s

Southampton (Home) 7 Southampton (Away) 2

Richard Becheley and Bradley Sullivan struck doubles as Southampton Home netted a comprehensive win over Jason Dodd’s men at St Mary’s.

Skipper Southwell netted first for the Away team, following a great ball up-field from defender Hempsall.

But the Home team were quick to equalise, Sullivan pushing the ball over the line for his first after a goal mouth scramble.

A Sheeran strike looked to have the home side cruising; Richard Becheley with the assist allowing Sheeran to easily slot the ball home past keeper Aslet.

But, Southwell struck once more, latching onto a cracking through ball from Thorpe and sending a confident chip over Enright, keeping the Away side, led by legend Jason Dodd, firmly in the game.

Minutes before half time, Becheley restored the lead for the Home side (with Gordon Watson in defence) running onto his brother Simon’s pin point pass and letting rip with a scorcher of a strike which thundered past Aslet to make it 3-2 coming into the break.

The Home team came blazing out the blocks in the second half, hungry for goal. Watson lengthened their lead, reliving his glory days with a cheeky chip into goal while Football Aid veteran, Phil Campion added another with his confidently taken penalty in the 75th minute.

Becheley joined in the fun with his second, controlling a Watson pass with flair before pummelling home to make it 6-2. And Sullivan sealed the emphatic victory with his second goal of the day, sneaking the ball past a rather overwhelmed Aslet to make the final score 7-2.
