Liverpool Game 2 2007

Football Aid Championships, Friday May 18th, Anfield

Liverpool (Home) 8 – Liverpool (Away) 1

Neil Lucey and Adrian Bliss smacked in doubles as Liverpool Home hammered Liverpool Away, earning a record win in the 2nd leg of the Football Aid Championships at Anfield.

Lucey scored the early opener, latching on to a perfectly weighted through ball from keeper Seddon and steadily slotting it home.

A scuffle in the Home penalty area almost led to the Away equaliser in the 19th minute, but somehow the ball did not cross the line.

Away continued to push hard for goal, play particularly competitive in the middle of the park as the two sides scrambled for the ball. Midfielder Thompson taking a rather enthusiastic attempt from 25 yards, his shot screaming past the post while Webb, feeling the pressure, smacked his penalty attempt straight at Seddon, much to the disappointment of the crowd.

Their perseverance paid off on the half hour however, ex-pro Durnin reliving the glory days by tapping the ball home from the edge of the box to make it 1 all.

However, their celebrations were shortlived as the Home side – led by Jan Molby – responded immediately with a goal of their own - Lee Carson calmly rounding the keeper to hand the Home side the lead once more.

The second half saw complete domination by Molby’s men as they systematically destroyed Liverpool Away in what can only be described as a goal frenzy.

Substitute Williams started the riot, sliding in their third while midfielder Taylor slammed in a stunning strike shortly after to make it 4-1.

An error from keeper Temple made it 5-1 - Gardner pouncing on the opportunity of an empty net - and a sneaky close range tap from midfielder Bliss lengthened their lead further.

There were no signs of the Home team dropping the tempo as the second half progressed, continuing to pummel the shell shocked Away team with sweeping attack after attack. Lucey knocked in his second with ten minutes to go and Bliss rounded off the scoring and netted his second in the dying minutes to make the final score a shocking 8-1.
