Man City Game 1 2005

The 16th of May City of Manchester Stadium was boiling with anticipation and nervousness, when 28 Football Aid players were doing their debut on the hallowed turf in a 90-minute game together with legends Andy Hinchcliffe who managed and played in the Home team and David White who managed and played in the Away game.

After being shown into the dressing rooms the players got dressed in their personalised Man City strips and enjoyed the pep talk from both legends. Finally it was time to grace the hallowed turf for a warm up and to play the match of their dreams!

It was an exhilarating game where the Home team ended as winners with the close call 4-3 with an own goal form the Away teams no. 17. The players received loud support form their friends and family on the stand who seemed to enjoy the day almost as much as the players.

Scorers Home team –

No 11 Graham Wilkes, No 7 Gordon Scott, and No 10 Simon Leyland

Scorers Away team –

No 11 Carl Kennedy, No 9 Mubin Mullan who scored 2 goals and No 17 who scored an own goal.

Man of the Match

Nominated men of the match by Hinchcliffe and White were Michael Dalton for the Home team and Gary Berry for the Away team, who both received a signed ball by both of the legends.

Captains

Wearing the captain’s armband was Umar Shoaib for the Home team and Ged Young for the Away team.

It was a great day, which legends, Football Aid staff, players and guests will always remember,

Quotes from the day:

“Well it doesn't get much better than this, I had a fantastic day. Ok Monday morning at 10.00 isn’t ideal but well organised and great fun. A big thank you to all at football Aid, roll on 2006. A 48 year old budding football apprentice.”

“A fantastic experience to visit, play, meet new people & relive my playing days! Apart from a pulled hamstring I cannot find any negative comments on the day. Look forward to next year!”

“Hi, It was a great day and I really enjoyed it. The only nice thing would have been a stadium tour as it is such an impressive place. Besides that it was brilliant and I really enjoyed it a good 4-3 Home win and I managed my first football aid goal. The DVD coverage I'm looking forward too seeing as a memory to keep close to me!!!Thanks for another special time my 5th Football Aid appearance and by far the most memorable!!!A special thanks to Stewart the face of Football Aid he was on Form as ever and good to go head to head with Dave Marsh - the serial Football Aider!!!”
