Leeds United Game 1 2005

In front of a loud cheering crowd the 14th of May at Elland Road, Leeds supporters lived their dream when playing a 90-minute game of football on the hallowed turf, dressed in a personalised Leeds strip and managed by legend John McClelland. They did not only live their dream, but also contributed significantly to improve life for people with diabetes and other special needs.

The Home tam played a strong first half putting them in the lead with 2-1, with the scorers Andy Fisher who scored in the 35th minute and Dan Ullmann who scored in the 41st minute. After Fisher’s score there was a counter attack from Richard O’Dell form the away team who scored only 2 minutes after Fisher. That was the ending of the first half.

Following in the second half the Away team came on strong and scored another 4 goals. First out was O’Dell (Away) who scored his second goal in the 52nd minute. Only 2 minutes after, Craig Knowles from the Home team scored their third goal. Thereafter Away teams Ray Tamman scored in the 59th minute. The scores are now 3-3 for 10 minutes until O’Dell (Away) scores a hat trick and place the Away team in the lead with one goal! The Home team tries to get back on track but Away team’s Carl Wall sores the last 5-3 goal in the 80th minute and the whistle blows leaving the Away team as winners!

Man of the Match

It was an exhilarating game with a lot of talented players, but the men who deserved the man of the match nomination were Scott Mathers from the Home team and Richard O’Dell from the Away team who scored a hat trick.

Wearing the captains armbands were Andy Fisher Home team and Mark Harland the Away team.

It was a warm and sunny day on the pitch, which was enjoyed by friends, families, players and Football Aid staff at Elland Road.

Quotes from the day;

“Really enjoyed the game, feedback would all be positive, particularly for John McClelland who was fantastic in both the pre match tour, in the dressing room and on the pitch.”

“Thank You, Very Much for this wonderful day. I will book my place for next year now, I enjoyed every minute, and scoring a penalty in the Kop end was great.”

“The "day" in fact the whole weekend was superb. Meeting up with old friends and putting faces to e.mail names was great as always. This was my fifth year as it was Kal's, who makes the effort from California every year. (I was "Captain” for the day and scored the first goal, which was brilliant). Can't understand why Kal' went back to the States and never asked for my Autograph!! We had "Big John" Mclelland with us and he was great. A true Professional who takes the time to make us mere mortals all so very welcome to Elland Road. I also have to say that the introduction of the Photo's on the day and the DVD was a great addition. The staff at Football Aid all worked hard to make the day go well and I'm sure they sorted the weather too! Just have to mention that after the game we sat with John for over an hour with a beer or two after all others had left and had a chat. This in itself was great for him to spend the time and please pass on our thanks for that if you can. Look forward to next year and please lord a victory as Kal' and I are 0 and 5.”
