West Ham 2005

Match Report West Ham 2005

Lucky Football Aid players lived their dream the 2nd of May when they played a 90-minute game of football in personalised strips at Upton Park together with West Ham football legends Steve Potts and Tony Gale. The atmosphere at the stadium is hard to describe, somewhat like a mixture of nervousness, anticipation and happiness, all at the same time.

After being showed to the changing rooms all the players got dressed up in their personalised West Ham strip and for the first time they got the chance to grace the hallowed turf for a warm up and photo session. The players were welcomed by a loud cheering from their friends and family on the stand. What followed was a thrilling and close game of football, which ended 2-2, captivating every one that watched.

Scorers Home team –

Scorers Away team –

Man of the Match

Nominated men of the match were Steven Jarrett for the Home team and Joel Sibley for the away team, who both showed off excellent football skills.

Captains were:

Richard Batten for the Home team and James Turner for the Away team

Quotes from the day were:

“The day was a complete success and my family and I enjoyed it immensely. Thank you for all your hard work and thanks for giving me something to remember for the rest of my life. (Derek Evans)”

“Just got back in from work and was going to drop you a line anyway. Had a great day yesterday and didn't get home until 00.30am this morning as we live in Staffordshire which was a 300 mile round trip! Everything was as I thought it would be but if I do it again, I would definitely go for the 'home' team next time, as their dressing room was massive and had much more comfort than ours! That said, the WHUFC staff and the reps from football Aid were great. My son, Jamie, also enjoyed the day as he was chosen to be a mascot and he intends to play for the Football Aid team once he turns 16 if that is possible (He is 14 now but would be much better at it than me as I am 45 and probably stood out a bit last night as being unfit) Once again, thank you (Rob Haynes)”
