Wolves 2005

On the 29th of April, Football Aid’s participants at Wolves put on a great show on a beautiful sunny evening on the hallowed turf of the Molineux. Coached and managed by two Club legends in Steve Bull and Robbie Dennison, the Home triumphed 8-1, while the away team, led by legends Don Goodman, Steve Froggatt, struggled to compete in the 20 degree evening heat. It turned out to be a fantastic experience for all: participants as well as the friends, families and colleagues who cheered them on from the stand.

Nominated for Home team Man of the Match was no. 17 Steven Chatterley. The Away team award to no. 4 Simon Fawell. Taking the leading role as Captains were Grenville Riley for the Home team and Shane Wilkinson for the Away team.

Quotes from the day were:

“Short of arranging for me to score a hat-trick, (highly unlikely as I played in central defence), I really can’t think of anything that would have improved the day. It was marvellous. Thanks to your whole team for making it happen, and run so smoothly. Thanks also to the people involved at Wolves, and the former pro’s who turned out, who all really went out of their way to make it such a special experience. It’s great that you raise so much money for charity, and help ordinary people realise their dreams whilst you’re doing it. (Brian Baker)”

“Fantastic evening, thanks. Wolves and the Footballaid staff made a big effort to make everyone feel a bit special. In particular, the players were all very approachable and stayed around both in the dressing rooms and the bar afterwards to chat to people. The only thing that needs to be changed for next time is the result (although I suppose that as a centre half in a 6-1 defeat that's probably rather more down to me than it is to you !) Keep up the good work. (Simon)”

“Despite arriving about an hour early (my fault I misread the email), I forgot to sign the book in the excitement of it all but I would like to thank Football Aid once again for organising such a great event. I was on the losing side, had a (own) goal go in off my nose, and still really enjoyed it. Maybe next time I'll score at the right end! I liked the fact that everyone got back together in the function room for the man of the match award rather than presenting it by the tunnel as in my previous year. Don Goodman and Steve Froggatt were both excellent captains/managers, a pleasure to meet and play football with. Thanks once again for a great day, hopefully my legs will stop aching in a day or two. (Alistair)”
