Aberdeen 2003

Games 1 and 2 Kick Offs 10.45am and 3pm

This year’s Football Aid event, which witnessed two games being played on the hallowed Pittodrie turf for the first time, raised almost £14,000 for the charity, a fantastic achievement for all those involved.

In the opening game, a last minute strike from Abe Taylor clinched a 5-4 victory for Neil Simpson’s side against the team skippered by Jim Bett. Also on the mark for Simmy’s team were Steve Robertson (2), Alan Johnston and Ken Mathieson while Dean Foster scored the day’s only hat-trick for Jim’s side. The other goal came from the captain himself, a fantastic strike from out wide that completely foxed keeper David Smith.

James Livingston was voted man of the match for Neil’s team with Dean Foster picking up the accolade for Jim’s outfit.

In the second game, it was a case of third time lucky for John Hewitt, whose team ran out 4-2 victors over Doug Rougvie’s men. A Scott Allen brace and counters from James McQuillan and Bruce McKenzie did the damage for the winners with John Milne and Terry Allan Junior responding.

Men of the match were Scott Allan, number 15 for the home team, and Steve Milne, number 11 for the away team.
