Leicester City 2003

Kick off 7.30pm

No-one could have predicted the eventual outcome of this match at Leicester City FC played in the torrential rain. As it kicked off, the play was lively and well balanced, but the Home team soon stepped up a gear and took control of the show.

By half time, Peter Walsh’s home team, captained by Paul Ramsay, were comfortably in front by 5 goals to 1. The scorers for the home team included David Marsh (No5), two for Scott Stewart (No17) and also Paul Whitby. The away team’s goal was scored by Ian Stringer (No9).

However, Howard Reilly’s away team’s comeback, captained by Ali Mauchlen, was nothing short of spectacular. His half-time team talk seemed to rile them up beyond belief. Although the Home team initially scored courtesy of No11 Kevin Lambert, the goals for the Away team started rolling in with Ian Stringer getting his hat-trick, followed by Graham Naismith, No 6, then Alan Hargrave No17 and No15, Jeremy Richards, all scoring to pull the score back to 6 – 6.

When it looked as if victory was possibly in sight for the away team, along came Scott Stewart (Home No 17) and killed the dream with an absolute screamer of a goal in the dying seconds of the match.

The crowd went mad! It was an outstanding finish to a thoroughly entertaining night at the impressive Walkers stadium.
