Charlton Athletic 2003
The heavy amount of rain almost put an end to the Football Aid game at The Valley before it even started, but thankfully it stopped for long enough to play a game.
The game went on to be very exciting, and quick paced, despite water on the pitch. It was a very close match, with both teams having several chances to score. The goalkeepers on both teams made some great saves, but then Jose Estanquiero, number 7 for the home team, scored a great goal in the second half. The score-line remained 1-0, but the smiley faces afterwards showed that the game had been thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Estanquiero, won the title of man of the match for the home team, and Christopher Cole, who played number 6 on the away team, was also awarded man of the match. Mark Penfold was there as a manager, and ensured that everyone got enough time on the pitch and that they thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Charlton Athletic FC were fantastic on the day, and everyone that played has been full of praise for their commitment to keeping the players informed with progress of the game due to the weather. They pulled out all the stops to ensure that everyone had a great day.
