Sheffield Wednesday 2003

Kick Off 6.30pm

It was a pleasant evening as 28 excited Owls fans arrived at Hillsborough clutching their kit bags and raring to go. Despite the excitement, there was some amount of nerves as they were preparing to make their debuts in a fully officiated game with Football Aid.

Being led into their respective changing rooms, the players were greeted by David Hirst, for the home team, and Chris Turner, for the away team. After a warm up session and a chat from the captains, the two teams were led out through the tunnel and onto the pitch.

With Colin West on the bench as the manager for both teams, the game got off to a good start. Despite some great play from the away team, it was clear that the home team were going to dominate the match with a great striking presence and a strong defence.

Despite a well-fought battle, the game finished as 9-4 to the home team. There were several scorers on the home team with Ricki Watson, at number 9, scoring 3 goals, Michael Grady scoring 3 goals, Hirst and Beard also scoring one each and Daniel Houman, number 15 for the home team, making a solo run through to score the ninth goal. The away team did put a few away, but were just not able to match the goal-scoring capabilities of the home team.

The game finished with the man of the match presentation, with Ricki Watson, the biggest goal scorer, winning the title for the home team and Paul Gosney, goalkeeper for the away team for some great saves.

It was a great game that was thoroughly enjoyed by all those who took part and also raised £10,237, a very significant amount for charity.
