Newcastle United 2003

Game 1 Kick Off 10.45am

It was a great day at St James’ Park. Mick Martin managed the Home side with ‘the one and only’ Peter Beardsley as captain. The Away team was managed by John Carver (Sir Bobby’s No 2) and their playing captain was John Anderson.

The game was very tight as both teams battled for victory. There was some good football on display and there was no shortage of goals for the rather quiet Sunday morning crowd.

Goals from Matthew Cowie (No 8), Steve Westlake (No 11) And Steven Tordini (No 17) for the home side were soon cancelled out as the away-side fought back to level the score with goals form John Hanson (No 11), Jamie Gibson (No 9) and Stephen Starkey (No 6).

Unfortunately neither team could break the deadlock and the match finished with well deserved 3-3 draw.

Man of the Match for the Home team was No 5 Andy Evans and David Needham No 4 was selected for the Away team.

Game 2 Kick Off 3pm

The second game to take place on the hallowed turf saw a nine-goal thriller go right to the wire. The Home team again had Mick Martin as manager and the ‘super-fit’ Peter Beardsley while John Carver became the playing manager for the Away team.

The game started lively with the play going from end to end and before long the goals were flying in. Unfortunately, the Away goalkeeper (Graeme Sharp) had to be taken off with an injury. John Carver put gloves on, rearranged his team and continued the Away team fight. At 5-5 and the 90th minute ticking away, David Oliver (No3) broke through the home defence, shot across goal only to see the net bulging seconds later. Despite the Home victory, both teams showed great skill, passion and sportsmanship just like their Newcastle United heroes always do.

Home Man of the Match was Michael Robertson No 5.

We would like to extend our best wishes and a speedy recovery to Graeme Sharp ( No1 Away).
