West Brom 2003

Kick Off 3pm

It was an overcast day when 28 excited fans arrived at the Hawthorns, nervously clutching their kit-bags and trying to prepare themselves for the reality of playing on their club’s “hallowed” turf!

After a tour of the stadium, they were led into their changing rooms and found their own personalised shirts. Once in their respective changing rooms, they were met by Baggies’ Heroes, Bernard McNally, captain for the home team, and Craig Shakespeare, captain for the away team.

After a team talk and a warm up, the players lined up in the tunnel and were led out onto the pitch to the cheers of the crowd. Now they were getting the chance to live the dream and actually play on the Hawthorns pitch!

It was a very closely-fought game with both teams scoring 3-3 goals a piece as the game neared full time. It was a last minute header from Jon Hartland on the home team that led to the final score of 4-3 to the home team. Special mention must go to Matthew Petrie for his great midfield performance for the away team, and his good memory!

The man of the match title went to Graham Fisher, number 9 for the home team, and to Dean Schubert, number 5 on the away team. Each was awarded a match ball by Craig Shakespeare and Bernard McNally.

Despite the dull weather, it was a great event that was thoroughly enjoyed by all that took part, from players and officials to the spectators, with their continual cheering.
