It was a
poignant day for Football Aid and for Celtic Football Club, as tributes poured
in for one of Scotland's
most treasured footballers, Tommy Burns, who had sadly passed away only a few days
earlier. A fitting tribute was paid to the former Celtic and Scotland
International, who had generously supported the Football Aid cause by playing in
our 2001 game. Black arm bands were worn throughout the match and a minutes
silence was observed by the players, including Danny McGrain on this special
occasion.

Celtic Home vs Celtic Away
Game 1
Celtic Park
KO: 11:00 am
Legend: Danny McGrain
The match itself was an extremely close encounter with neither side managing to sustain a lead for long enough to earn a victory.
Hamill scored the opener with his first effort of the match, a well struck long-range shot that flew high into the net leaving the goalkeeper no chance. Away goalkeeper Andy Hunter was also busy at the other end, producing a good one-on-one save to keep his side in the lead. It was then away defender Neil Murray's turn for heroics as he made a saving tackle to deny a certain goal. Home striker Martin Glancey then extended his side's lead after a good turn to make it 2-0.
The away side showed great character and managed to haul themselves back into the game. A goal by Captain Paul Walker and a converted penalty by Richard McKeon levelled the score before David Walker scored a fantastic free-kick to give the away side a deserved lead.
Home striker Glancey got his second goal to level things before McKeon put the away team back in front with his second of the game. It appeared as though the away side were going to hang on for the win but Gianni Guarino scored with 9 minutes remaining after the goalkeeper had saved David Bowman's attempt from the edge of the box.
David
Walker had a last minute chance for glory but the away team's hopes were dashed
when his shot cleared the crossbar.
