Game 2, Springfield Stadium 29th September 2007
Jersey Home Team 5 – 1 Jersey Away Team
An inspired performance from ‘goal machine’ Darwin proved the difference in this hotly contested affair at Springfield Stadium.
The eventual 5-1 score line tells very little of the story of the first half, which saw little in terms of goalmouth action as both defences turned in sound and resolute performances.
It took until the 50th minute for the deadlock to be broken by Darwin’s angled drive, which beat Le Bihan in the Away goal. The striker cut in from the left before sending a bouncing effort into the far corner past the unsighted goalkeeper. Darwin added a second after a good move before Anderson was felled in the box by goalkeeper Roscouet. Le Marquand pulled one back from the resulting spot kick as the Away team attempted to re-establish themselves in the match. However, Darwin had other ideas as he completed his hat trick from the spot after player-manager Nevin was unceremoniously dumped in the box following good build up play from Le Saux and Gallacher. Le Bihan and his defence had a hard task in containing the continued onslaught as Pat Nevin added a fourth in the 75th minute. Nevin dinked in from close range following an acrobatic stop by the goalkeeper from Le Saux’s 20 yard drive.
Darwin completed his scoring exploits for the day in style as he rounded the keeper to slot in his fourth, and his team’s fifth goal of the day.
