Derek Mountfield

At just £30,000, Derek Mountfield proved to be quite a bargain when Everton's Manager Howard Kendall snapped him up from Tranmere Rovers in the summer of 1982. A powerful defender with an excellent goalsoring record (he scored 19 times in his Everton career), he went on to form a rock solid partnership with Kevin Ratcliffe at the heart of the Toffees defence.

His spell at the club was highly successful, with his Everton team winning the FA Cup in the 1983/84 season, then following that up with a League and UEFA Cup double the following year. He went on to win a further League title in 1987 before signing for Aston Villa where he finished 2nd in the League in 1990. Derek played for another 5 clubs before retiring in 1999 and went on to manage Scarborough and Cork City for short spells.

Away from the professional game Derek has worked for Merseyside station Radio City, discussing Liverpool, Everton and Tranmere Rovers and is now a Motivational Sports Coach at Pensby High School and can be seen at Goodison Park on match days, where he works in the hospitality areas, no doubt regaling those lucky fans with stories from his playing days.

Derek is a great supporter of Football Aid and was delighted to be appointed an Ambassador for Everton. When available he's always been an enthusiastic addition to our matches, using his experience and coaching skills to get the best out of our players. Football Aid Ball
