In 2006, Help a Hallam Child (the official charity of radio stations, Hallam FM and Magic AM), launched a special project ‘Read to Succeed’ to tackle the problem of children not learning to read properly whilst at school. Over the next two years, the project aims to employ over 50 teaching assistants to help with this problem with the Field of Dreams grant of £2,360 going towards the cost of employing one teaching assistant helping pupils aged 6 and 7 years with literacy problems.
Whirlow Hall Farm Trust, a unique environmental and educational charity, received £1,836 in 2005 which was used to extend access ramps for disabled users. David Heugh, Chief Executive of Whirlow Farm Trust thanked Football Aid and Field of Dreams for the donation, “We have 10,000 visitors 4-12 yrs each year and over 2000 are special need/ wheelchair users. The ramp made access much easier. We laid concrete and pathways to one of the main charity areas - prior to this the terrain made it very difficult for wheelchair users and smaller children. It has been excellent. The area is now fully accessible and all visitors now use this area."
