CHARITY INFORMATION
In 2005, ‘Celebrity Live the Dream’ premiered under the floodlights of Upton Park. A Football Aid ‘All Stars’ side tried their luck against a formidable Celebrity team which included the likes of Steve Harris from Iron Maiden, former World Boxing Champion Colin McMillan, international boxer and ABA champion Tony Cesay and West Ham Master, Steve Potts. No surprise then, when the Celebrities romped home to a 9-4 victory…
The funds raised from this highly charged event went to West Ham's nominated charity,
Richard House Children’s Hospice towards the salary of a Play and Care Worker for life-limited and life-threatened children.
Jonathan Ashton, Trust Fundraiser, explains, "By the very nature of their conditions, most children using Richard House need a very great deal of attention and support. Nearly all have mobility problems, most require special feeding tubes and many need continuous medication or support.”
“Our Play and Care Workers offer parents the chance for respite from the demands of caring and provide stimulation and care in a positive, warm environment for the children. They make a huge difference to the lives of the children. As an example, Gemma* is six and profoundly disabled, with little voluntary mobility. Consequently, she has virtually no way to interact with her environment. With the help of her Play and Care Worker, she can use the sound-sensitive laser display to have a direct and visible effect on something in the outside world. For a child who cannot even move, this is truly empowering."
